Good cooking requires good ingredients. Fortunately, there are so many working farms around here that it’s getting to the point where I can seriously consider the possibility of not having to buy things like milk, eggs and meat from the supermarket. And I will be loving it, because what I will be buying is so much more flavorful than anything I’ve seen in any supermarket. -
As a new cook, I find the toughest part of getting a good meal on the table is the timing. If things are going well, I am the good wife (ie, Mrs. Hyde) who happily prepares a meal for me and my husband. If things aren’t going well, out comes the cursing and yelling (ie, Dr. Jekyll). -
I recently scored tickets from work for a fundraising event at the Hickman in West Chester. After a long week I was excited to attend, but had some work to do to prepare. -
Today on philly.com Ken Alan covers the Blue Pear Bistro which opened last month right next to The Dillworthtown Inn:
Fine food, fabulous wines and flickering candlelight - for decades, the venerable Dilworthtown Inn has been one of Chester County’s premier dining destinations.
Now, with the opening of the Blue Pear Bistro next door last month - a general store turned casual 75-seat restaurant - the famed colonial-era inn has a dressed-down yet stylish younger sibling.
“One is absolutely fine dining,” says Jim Barnes. “The other, the Blue Pear, has a menu that’s affordable and reads simple but with components that are quite complex.”

So What’s Eating Peter Gilmore?
West Chester, Pa - October, 2007 - Gilmore’s, an eleven table BYOB in downtown West Chester has recently received numerous awards from Zagat, Philadelphia Magazine, Main Line Today, Main Line Life and Delaware Today. Given all these praises, what’s eating chef/owner Peter Gilmore? “The public’s perception is they simply can’t get in and the restaurant is booked to capacity every night”. Contrary to popular belief, tables are available most weeknights and Gilmore’s even takes weeknight walk-ins.
Gilmore adds, “I just really want people to know that just because we’ve won all these awards, we have availability and are eager to cook for them”. It …

Just stumbled across this review of Butterfish on Phillyfoodiegirl.com, a Philadelphia Foodie also known as a Phoodie
I wonder if there’s any relation to Phillyfoodguys.com?Any way here’s an excerpt:
“I had the signature Hawaiian Butterfish which was a knockout! It was flavored with ginger and a touch of fruit. I had to thank our friendly and knowledgeable server for that suggestion. I always appreciate suggestions. My hubby opted for the 8-ounce filet was . . . (click here for the entire Butterfish review)” -

The air is crisp, leaves twirl down aimlessly and it’s almost cool enough to garner — gasp! — a fall jacket! There are a couple of things (okay, a lot of things) that excite me about autumn. First is seeing kids at the bus stop blowing their foggy breath into the morning air. The second is gassing up the ole’ hunk of metal and cruising to the local farm to pick fruit, buy pumpkins and play in the straw. Of course, there’s so much more… so we bring you our list of Chester County farms with all your favorite autumn activities.

Dave Magrogan, owner and CEO of DMG Group, which includes six pubs, a Doc Magrogan’s Oyster House and a recently opened third restaurant concept, Grady David’s, hopes to have 25 restaurants by 2010, he said.
“I still have on my wall our five-year plan, which was to open three restaurants. We’ve been in business four-and-a-half years and we have double that,” Magrogan said in an interview at the Kildare’s on Head House Square in Philadelphia.
Last year, sales topped $15 million. For the current year, Magrogan estimates sales of $20 million, including new restaurant growth.
Let’s do the math shall we? 25 restaurants - 6 he already owns / 3years. That’s an impressive …
