West Chester Restaurants Yum!

Cafe MentaNEW!

It’s new and exciting and it’s called Café Menta! Situated within a new venue called The Arts Scene, located on Union Street downtown. “Feed your body while you feed your artistic cravings” say the owners, who are passionate supporters of all the arts – including culinary!

The menu features fresh salads, soups, quiches, and sandwiches in the $6.00 range, using organic and locally grown ingredients wherever possible … also espresso, latte, macchiato and other “fair trade organic” specialty coffees — served in biodegradable cups, no less!

Their Quiche of the Day and the Potato Leek soup are popular favorites but anything and everything tastes great!

The café is open for lunch Tuesday through Saturday and during all Arts Scene evening events and live performances. While owners Claudia and Cobie prepare your order, you can peruse the latest exhibit of local and international painters, sculptors, and photographers. They’ve got some pretty interesting stuff, from wooden matchsticks whittled down into tiny figurines (how the heck did he do that?!) to huge photo/paint composite works that are quite captivating.

Check out the fall line-up of concerts, lectures, and events at www.theartsscene.org.

P.S. Regarding the name … in Italian, “Menta” means “mint,” a refreshing natural herb. I did find the food and atmosphere at Café Menta to be very refreshing — new and different and definitely buzz-worthy!

WC Dish Recommends: Ham and Swiss melt on tasty whole grain homemade bread or the Chicken Curry Salad.

I LOVE Cafe Menta! It would be enough to have really tasty and fresh food, but it is presented in the most unique and enchanting atmosphere!

The art is always changing and rotating in the galleries, and the staff there is very knowledgeable about the art work, the artists, and the art scene at large! They’re so fun to talk with.

The food is great too… My personal favorite is the Tuna Melt on thick, delicious whole grain bread. I cannot figure out what makes this taste sooo good, but whatever it is, it keeps me coming back for more! Oh, and the balsalmic dressing has a great kick!

Cafe Menta is truly one of West Chester’s best kept secret…It’s off the beaten path a bit, but well worth the trip! If satisfies my cravings for both good food and good art!

Excellent food, friendly staff, incomparable atmosphere. We attended a private party there - what a great and elegant way to celebrate without any stuffiness! We thought the little kids would be bored, but they were fascinated with the artwork displayed throughout the mazelike gallery.

The potato leek soup was divine and the quiche was excellent - reminiscent of the old Bar & Restaurant lunch.

The setting is great for this little cafe. You can walk around and view the art in the galleries, which changes quite frequently, while your waiting for your meal to be prepared. The first time there I had a delicious salad with albacore tuna & beans. The second outing I had a very tasty bacon tomatoe quiche and the side salad fresh with a nice balsamic dressing. The desserts & cappuccino are good too! this place is a hidden gem with no hassle parking. I also happened upon a lecture theone time I was there for lunch. It was very enlightening - can’t be learning with a great lunch.

    Very interesting setting.

Review Guidelines
Be Respectful. Do you kiss your mother with that mouth?

Although the old saying, "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all," is swell, we encourage constructive feedback (ie, be polite), and recommend backing-up your comments with evidence/witnesses.

Be Honest. Look where it got Abe Lincoln. Well, before the evening at the theater.

We don't recommend complaining just for the sake of it (see number 1), but if you have a legitimate comment, it should be shared. Also, don't hesitate to disagree with other comments, even if your opinion is in the minority. If patrons aren't honest about their experiences, restaurants won't know that there is room for improvement. And there always is.

Be Specific. "The food was good" doesn't cut it.

Each dining experience is unique, so if a dining experience moves you in any way, by all means, share the details. Choose the sensory details that impacted your experience the most and describe them in your postings. Other foodies will gobble it up—literally.

Be Concise. 'Nuf said.

What? We thought it was pretty clear the first time.

Be Helpful. Sort of like how the elves and reindeer help Santa.

Will what you have to say improve the restaurant's ability to provide impeccable service and improve the dining experience for others (again, see number 1)? If so... help away.

Show a Little Pride. No Jane or John Does please.

If you are too embarrassed to put your name as the commenter, you probably should re-evaluate your comments (you know the drill... see number 1). If you have sensitive information that you feel needs to be passed along, please use your best judgment and e-mail it to us to avoid public posting. We don't want you to have any post-post regrets.

Don't Name Names. Let's not get too personal here.

We know you want to share your experiences, both good and bad, but this isn't the place to publicly condemn or praise individual people. Feel free to comment on "the service", "the chef", or "the staff", but any positive or negative mention of specific names will be moderated.
