Drove past on Wednesday, and it looks like it’s closed and is turning into just another sports bar….

Here’s the good and the bad:

    Good stuff:
-Rooftop is awesome. Best view in town, and loads of fun.
-Margaritas are excellent. Probably the best around.
-Javier, is one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet. I believe he’s a shift manager, who also works as a server. Great guy.

Not so good: (please work on this stuff because I love coming to your restaurant!)
-Food is not worth the price. It’s good, but not good enough for those prices.
What could be cheaper to make than Mexican food?
-Liquor prices are obscene. I ordered four top shelf margaritas, and an $8.00 appetizer. I almost fell over when the bill came to $74.00 before tip. Lesson learned. Get drunk at home first.

Overall, I really like the place, I just refrain from going there more often because I feel like I’m getting clipped.

A friend and I decided to have happy hour for margaritas on the roof one tuesday afternoon and the place was disgustingly dirty. The stairs were littered with cigarette butts and scraps of paper and just plain dirty. We ordered two Don Julio margaritas on the rocks that were okay but different from the last time I had been there. The bartender suggested half price apps and I couldn’t even get past the menus that were wet, covered in food particles and old sticky alcohol. Why would someone want to eat after seeing such a mess? I wonder what the kitchen looks like. To top off the lousy experience our two margaritas came to $40, not including a tip. Thank god we didn’t order a second round.

Coyote has the best margaritas and the most unique outdoor dining atmosphere (rooftop). However, on 3 different occasions we have paid our bill, only to have a different amount show up on our credit card statement the following month. The difference has amounted to less than $3 each time, but it is still aggravating to know that they are padding their pockets with their customer’s credit! Moral of the story: pay in cash or don’t go!

Went with my date on Friday night to the roof deck, and they wrote my cellphone number down wrong, so we spent about an hour drinking watery margaritas before I realized that they were not, in fact, going to seat us :P They were semi-apologetic, but frankly they did not really have it together.

Fortunately, there was some sort of pleasing Alpshorn music, punctuated by a mournful call of “RIIIICOLLAAAAAA” coming from somewhere, so that was nice.

We ended up going elsewhere for dinner.

The food is way over priced but the view from top is great if you can get seat. Margarita are excellent. From the roof, it’s the best place in West Chester to yell: RIIIIIIIIICCOLA!

Thumbs way down. Don’t squander your time or your money at this dive.

The food is clearly overpriced, and there are so many better options in the area. As for atmosphere: an unpleasant staff and a contrived decor. Say no thanks and spend your evening (and hard earned cash) somewhere with better food and a bit of class.

I agree with JC.. I’ve been to the Conshohocken many times and loved it. If you want the Axteca soup go to Conshy…

We have repeatedly tried to like the W.C. location and can’t. Location is great, and atmosphere is nice, but service, price and food quality and quantity don’t add to a great experience.

We do end going back.. but instead of weekly haunt, make it more of a annual “try”.

I’ve been to the Conshohocken version many times and loved it–which made my disappointing experiences at the W.C. spot even harder to accept. Normally, I don’t return to a restaurant after 2 bad experiences–but I tried Coyote Crossing 5 times before my ban was implemented.

From truly the WORST service in the greater Philly area, to the utter disdain for clients’ enjoyment, I have consistently found the W.C. Coyote Crossing to be notably bad. How it stays open is a mystery–is it a front?

Got off to a great start when they opened a few years ago, but not long after that it became obvious that the owners were milking it for cash.

For example: margaritas on opening night were awesome and within 2 weeks were pre-mixed and tasted carbonated.

Initial dinners were very good, but a few months after opening, I was offered “surf and turf” as a special, which turned out to be a cheap hanger steak and a handful of jumbo shrimp– for $35.00. Aside from the obvious attempt to reap a total profit off this dish, there wasn’t anything intriguing about the recipe, either. This was clearly a sub-$30.00 entree. I was frosted.

Granted, I didn’t ask for a description or a price when I ordered, but I didn’t think I should have been wearing my “caveat emptor” hat. That, my friends, is an utter rip-off and not exactly a “good faith” effort. You can get a lobster and a filet for the same price at most other restaurants.

If you don’t eat on the roof don’t go. Even then the food is OK and priced high. You would think that the bar would be wonderful up there but there’s not much liquior in the drinks. The view and atmosphere are wonderful.

Decided to check out the rooftop for dinner Saturday night. The wait was about 25 min. for a table. As I was drinking my margarita, looked down to see my hand was bleeding due of a large chip in the glass. This made the margarita free, as well as my vegetarian quesadillas, which was a good thing because I thought the quesadillas were awful. It was very dark up there on the roof, lighting was conducive to a bar but not to dinner — so it was hard to see exactly what you were eating… I’m assuming the tough/chewy veggies I was trying to bite into were zucchini and eggplant. (Still not sure.) The only saving grace was the guacamole, which was delicious. We had to wait about 40 minutes for the check.

Atmosphere is great, particularly on the rooftop but the food and service could both be improved greatly.

  14. Eileen NMay 22, 2007

Nachos are awesome! Atmosphere on rooftop is five plates!

  15. Jeeper3May 21, 2007

Food= ok. Service= not good. Prices= so so. Atmosphere on the roof= priceless.

I don’t know much about their food but when the weather is nice the view from the roof-top-bar creates a sense of elevation superiority that trendy West Chesterites can’t pass up.

Comment Guidelines
Be Respectful. Do you kiss your mother with that mouth?

Although the old saying, "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all," is swell, we encourage constructive feedback (ie, be polite), and recommend backing-up your comments with evidence/witnesses.

Be Honest. Look where it got Abe Lincoln. Well, before the evening at the theater.

We don't recommend complaining just for the sake of it (see number 1), but if you have a legitimate comment, it should be shared. Also, don't hesitate to disagree with other comments, even if your opinion is in the minority. If patrons aren't honest about their experiences, restaurants won't know that there is room for improvement. And there always is.

Be Specific. "The food was good" doesn't cut it.

Each dining experience is unique, so if a dining experience moves you in any way, by all means, share the details. Choose the sensory details that impacted your experience the most and describe them in your postings. Other foodies will gobble it up—literally.

Be Concise. 'Nuf said.

What? We thought it was pretty clear the first time.

Be Helpful. Sort of like how the elves and reindeer help Santa.

Will what you have to say improve the restaurant's ability to provide impeccable service and improve the dining experience for others (again, see number 1)? If so... help away.

Show a Little Pride. No Jane or John Does please.

If you are too embarrassed to put your name as the commenter, you probably should re-evaluate your comments (you know the drill... see number 1). If you have sensitive information that you feel needs to be passed along, please use your best judgment and e-mail it to us to avoid public posting. We don't want you to have any post-post regrets.

Don't Name Names. Let's not get too personal here.

We know you want to share your experiences, both good and bad, but this isn't the place to publicly condemn or praise individual people. Feel free to comment on "the service", "the chef", or "the staff", but any positive or negative mention of specific names will be moderated.
