Actually flew two large orders of greens from PHL to San Francisco as a request of an Aunt who had tasted them one time.

Told the restaurant that I was taking them on the plane and they packed it better than anyone else could have. I have been in there when others are getting their full Easter meals there. The food is great and flavorful. Whenever I am in town I try to stop by and at least get a side.

    Yum

I’m not too proud to say that I’ve had 5 pulled pork sandwiches here in the last few weeks but I have. The pulled pork is probably the best I’ve ever had and the cole slaw is up on the list too. I hear that the ribs are very good but everytime I’m about to order them - all I can think about is the pp sandwich. TASTY. (Note that this place is for take-out only).

Tried it once months ago, loved it. Tried it last night - something’s changed. Greens so salty you couldn’t eat them. Hush puppies over cooked, dry bland. Pulled pork sauced and over seasoned.

Foodie if your so worried about going to ER walk your patootie next door to The Great Pumpkin. They have great healthy sandwiches.

Mabel’s is Southern Comfort Food. So leave us be to induldge in all its gloriously delicious ness yes all the fat salt, sugar and unhealthful yum.

For me it’s only once in a while thing. Like it or not it’s a fact
    FAT IS FLAVORFUL!

There food here is dare-i-say Bbbbbbbbbbangin’! Try it just once and you will be hooked. If you never had real down south bbq, this is place to go to. If you have, then here is your joint. Try the pulled-pork sandwich, it is very spicy! Also, the ribs are good too, the meat just comes right off the bone. A bit pricey but Mabel gives you a lot of side dishes/extras to go with your meal. Not too many healthy choices here though. Overall the Food gets an A.

Try it.. you’ll like it… I finally went in after years of seeing as i drove out on Market. I was VERY surprised and pleased. Great BBQ at Great Prices..

    I tried the
    BBQ Chicken - Great
    Beans - Great
    Mac and Cheese - Great
    Colslaw - OK
Sweet Potatoes - Too Sweet for my taste.

Next I want to taste the Ribs…

Very flavorful food but way too salty/sugary for your health. You can make food taste good without killing it with salt and oil.

I wondered whether I should go to the ER after trying the Ribs, the sweet potatoes, and the green beans. Everything was overpowering (too sweet or too salty). Diners with high blood pressure and or heart problems should be very careful.

The ribs are just delish the meats falls right into your mouth - the sauce is not overpowering the meat.

    The greens were very good.

Checked out Mabel’s for something different and I was pleasantly surprised. The pulled pork sandwiches along with the mac and cheese were excellent together. Yum!

Mabel’s is delicious and my son’s restaurant of choice for special occasions. As Michele said, the ribs, chicken, mac & cheese are all terrific. Even the cole slaw is great! I usually indulge myself and get the hush puppies too.

It isn’t an eat-in place - just call ahead with your order and pick up a wonderful meal in about half an hour.

All I can say is YUM! Mabels rocks! Everything I have ordered has been delicious and true BBQ…the ribs are tender and tasty, the fried chicken crispy and well seasoned, mac & cheese is a personal favorite and they got me to eat greens which I now love! Service is on slower side but then again is cooked more to order so the food is pipping hot even when you get home. Well worth the wait!

Review Guidelines
Be Respectful. Do you kiss your mother with that mouth?

Although the old saying, "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all," is swell, we encourage constructive feedback (ie, be polite), and recommend backing-up your comments with evidence/witnesses.

Be Honest. Look where it got Abe Lincoln. Well, before the evening at the theater.

We don't recommend complaining just for the sake of it (see number 1), but if you have a legitimate comment, it should be shared. Also, don't hesitate to disagree with other comments, even if your opinion is in the minority. If patrons aren't honest about their experiences, restaurants won't know that there is room for improvement. And there always is.

Be Specific. "The food was good" doesn't cut it.

Each dining experience is unique, so if a dining experience moves you in any way, by all means, share the details. Choose the sensory details that impacted your experience the most and describe them in your postings. Other foodies will gobble it up—literally.

Be Concise. 'Nuf said.

What? We thought it was pretty clear the first time.

Be Helpful. Sort of like how the elves and reindeer help Santa.

Will what you have to say improve the restaurant's ability to provide impeccable service and improve the dining experience for others (again, see number 1)? If so... help away.

Show a Little Pride. No Jane or John Does please.

If you are too embarrassed to put your name as the commenter, you probably should re-evaluate your comments (you know the drill... see number 1). If you have sensitive information that you feel needs to be passed along, please use your best judgment and e-mail it to us to avoid public posting. We don't want you to have any post-post regrets.

Don't Name Names. Let's not get too personal here.

We know you want to share your experiences, both good and bad, but this isn't the place to publicly condemn or praise individual people. Feel free to comment on "the service", "the chef", or "the staff", but any positive or negative mention of specific names will be moderated.
