open-sign.jpgEveryone is talking about it and, in case you haven’t heard, WC Dish is here to fill you in. Here is what owners Marisa and Sean Powell have to say about the opening of this high-end steakhouse in the borough.

IMPORTANT UPDATE: I just got a hold of Pietro’s new public menu (download the PDF)..

Pietro’s Prime – Our Questions Answered

What brought them to WC?

They have always been in the food business in this community. The family is well known in WC as the owners of Giunta’s Market. When the grocery store closed, they wanted to stay in WC and pursue Sean’s dream of owning his own restaurant.

Why the name Pietro’s Prime?

Pietro comes from Marisa’s great grandfather, Pietro Giunta, a butcher. It was a natural fit to name it after her great-grandpop when they decided to do a steakhouse.

What does Sean do?

In a past life Sean worked with numbers, but he followed his true passion for food and attended the Philadelphia Restaurant School to help reach his dream. He spends all of his time in the restaurant’s kitchen, so they are proud to say that the owner is actually in the kitchen overseeing all the ingredients and everything that comes out. “A customer came in the other day and said that in Europe they only allow a restaurant to operate if the owner works in the kitchen. We embrace the same mentality.”

And Marisa?

Her bubbly personality and warm smile makes her a perfect fit for front of house management. She and the hosts greet each and every customer as if they are family to ensure they have a relaxed and comfortable dining experience.

Sean’s food philosophy:

“We make sure to have fresh ingredients, daily deliveries of the finest produce and seafood and meats that are butchered daily. The food is really what inspires me. I love working with food, I love pairing food with wine and I always put a lot of love into what I create.” I was also told that he is armed with secret ingredients, but never tells a soul (even Marisa).

What makes Pietro’s Prime different from other WC restaurants?

“No one else in town is a true steakhouse, and we are one of a very few high-end eateries in the borough. We offer exceptional food and service in a very relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. It’s like a family here, warm and homey where we always know who you are. We treat our staff like family, so it’s only natural that it trickles down to the customers.”

Marisa recommends:

“You have to get the creamed corn. Every side is homemade, but the creamed corn is definitely the best. Personally, I always get the mashed potatoes. I just can’t eat steak without potatoes.”

It doesn’t get more comfortable than that. Check out this new restaurant for yourself and let us know what you think by leaving a review in our Restaurant Listing for Pietro’s Prime

I went to Pietro’s Friday night, the service was impeccable and the food was absolutely delicious, I will have to try the cream corn next time, their Mushroom soup was perfect and should be served at the restaurant festival. I had the filet with roquefort garlic sauce, it melted in my mouth I ate every last bite, we ordered the smashed potatos and creamed spinach for our sides and both were outstanding, definitely would go back again and they do need a website.

I went to Pietro’s the other night & it as a mixed bag. The service was lacking, the appetizers were great but the salads were less than stellar. The crabcake on my salad was cold & didn’t have much taste. They are definitely going to have to step up the service & taste of the food if they are going to last.

I went to Pietro’s Prime last week for hors d’s and drinks.
We sat outside and really enjoyed the atmosphere - very laid back and comfortable with a staff that is impressively together considering how young the restaurant is.

We only had one app (ahi tuna stuffed red bliss potatoes) which were okay, and the creamed corn which was fabu. (I know - weird combo and don’t ask).

I think they’ll do well there.
My only issue is mini-minor - The Name.
While I understand why it’s named Pietro’s Prime, I find that a.) it borrows too much from other Primes (Brandywine/Barclay/The Prime Rib), b.) It makes me think of an Italian restaurant due to the Pietro’s moniker and c.) do they serve real U.S.D.A. Prime beef (it doesn’t say they do on the menu) and if not, is it fair to have “Prime” in the name?

I wish them well and I’ll definitely go back.

We went to Pietro’s last night and sat outsite. It was very nice. Pietro’s is what West Chester has been missing!!! No need to go to King of Prussia for the “other” steak houses. Very good steaks cooked to perfection. Smashed potatoes were delicious.

“A customer came in the other day and said that in Europe they only allow a restaurant to operate if the owner works in the kitchen.”

This is a charming thing to say, but utter nonsense.

Sorry! I meant to write that “it’s a charming thing for the customer to say, but utter nonsense.”

Beef was excellent, sauces wonderful. Sides good, large portions (can share), but light on seasoning. Salads uninspired, too pricy for what was delivered. Bar drinks excellent.
Was seated in the large “brick wall” room with a large, loud pary, acoustics made it difficult for our party to talk. This was also a problem with previous restaurant. Will definately return, but ask for a different seating area.

I was terribly disappointed. I ordered scallops. I received 4 scallops no larger than a quarter for $28 - no bread, salad, veggies. I ordered asparagus for $5 and went home starving. My meal was barely an appetizer. Another member in my party ordered medium rare beef and it was almost well done.

No way I will go back and they better serve more food or they won’t make it. WCites may have a little $$$$, but they aren’t dumb!!!!!

Comment Guidelines
Be Respectful. Do you kiss your mother with that mouth?

Although the old saying, "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all," is swell, we encourage constructive feedback (ie, be polite), and recommend backing-up your comments with evidence/witnesses.

Be Honest. Look where it got Abe Lincoln. Well, before the evening at the theater.

We don't recommend complaining just for the sake of it (see number 1), but if you have a legitimate comment, it should be shared. Also, don't hesitate to disagree with other comments, even if your opinion is in the minority. If patrons aren't honest about their experiences, restaurants won't know that there is room for improvement. And there always is.

Be Specific. "The food was good" doesn't cut it.

Each dining experience is unique, so if a dining experience moves you in any way, by all means, share the details. Choose the sensory details that impacted your experience the most and describe them in your postings. Other foodies will gobble it up—literally.

Be Concise. 'Nuf said.

What? We thought it was pretty clear the first time.

Be Helpful. Sort of like how the elves and reindeer help Santa.

Will what you have to say improve the restaurant's ability to provide impeccable service and improve the dining experience for others (again, see number 1)? If so... help away.

Show a Little Pride. No Jane or John Does please.

If you are too embarrassed to put your name as the commenter, you probably should re-evaluate your comments (you know the drill... see number 1). If you have sensitive information that you feel needs to be passed along, please use your best judgment and e-mail it to us to avoid public posting. We don't want you to have any post-post regrets.

Don't Name Names. Let's not get too personal here.

We know you want to share your experiences, both good and bad, but this isn't the place to publicly condemn or praise individual people. Feel free to comment on "the service", "the chef", or "the staff", but any positive or negative mention of specific names will be moderated.
